The Brief
Mato Space needed a website that could do more than simply display finished projects.
As a lighting designer and interior architect, her work is highly visual, but the value goes beyond aesthetics. The website needed to communicate her approach, show the thinking behind each project, and give potential clients enough confidence to make contact.
The goal was to create a refined digital presence that could function both as a portfolio and as a tool for generating new business.
The Challenge
Creative portfolio websites often look impressive but leave visitors unsure about what the designer actually offers or how to work with them.
For Mato Space, the challenge was to preserve the visual impact of the work while creating a much clearer customer journey.
Visitors needed to move naturally from discovering a project, to understanding the expertise behind it, to seeing how Mato Space could help with their own space.
Our Approach
We built the website around the work itself.
Projects became the primary entry point, supported by carefully structured content that explains the context, design decisions, and thinking behind each outcome.
Rather than treating every project as a simple image gallery, we created a system that allows selected work to become deeper case studies — giving potential clients a better understanding of both the process and the value Mato Space brings to a project.
The rest of the website was then designed around guiding that interest towards an enquiry.
Portfolio System
The portfolio was structured to make the work easy to explore while allowing each project to have its own character.
Large imagery gives the projects room to speak for themselves, while supporting copy provides the context needed to understand the brief, approach, and result.
The system also gives Mato Space the flexibility to continue adding new work over time without changing the structure of the website.
Case Studies
Selected projects were developed into more detailed case studies.
These pages go beyond the final visuals and show how each project came together — helping prospective clients understand the level of thought, expertise, and decision-making involved.
This turns the portfolio from a collection of attractive images into a stronger proof of capability.
Conversion
Every part of the website was designed with the next step in mind.
Calls to action, service information, project navigation, and contact points were placed throughout the experience so visitors are never left wondering what to do next.
The aim was not to make the website feel aggressively sales-driven, but to remove friction between discovering the work and starting a conversation.
Search Visibility
The website was also structured to give Mato Space a stronger foundation for organic discovery.
Page structure, metadata, project content, service information, internal linking, and search-friendly content architecture were developed to help search engines better understand the practice and the work it offers.
The portfolio and case-study system also creates more opportunities for individual projects and services to be discovered over time.
Responsive Experience
Because visual work needs to translate well across every device, the portfolio experience was carefully adapted for desktop, tablet, and mobile.
Image proportions, typography, spacing, navigation, and content order were adjusted across breakpoints so the work retains its impact without compromising usability.
Outcome
The result is a website that works as both a digital portfolio and a business tool.
Mato Space now has a clearer online identity, a stronger way to present the depth behind her work, and a website designed to help potential clients move from inspiration to enquiry.
Instead of simply showing what she has created, the website helps communicate why her work matters — and why someone should choose her for their next project.
